Vermont Motorcyclist Dies After Crashing into Truck

A motorcyclist was killed after sideswiping a tractor trailer on Vermont roadway, according to the Post Star.

The crash occurred on the afternoon of May 19 as the victim, Johnny K. Ellis, was riding his motorcycle on Route 149. The newspaper said he had been heading to Schenectady, New York, to visit a relative.

Authorities believe that Ellis lost control of his Harley Davidson, causing him to drift into the opposite lane and sideswipe the rear wheels of the trailer. The impact threw Ellis from the bike, leaving him with severe internal injuries. The news report said he passed away early the next morning at Albany Medical Center.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident and was not ticketed, reported the paper. Vermont State Police inspected the tractor trailer following the accident but did not find any violations.

The news source said Ellis' death was the ninth fatal motorcycle crash in Washington County since October. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, there were only two motorcycle deaths in the state during the first nine months of 2010.
